An Indian Kashmiri woman collects saffron from a field at Pampore on the outskirts of Srinagar, 31 October 2007, as the season of cultivation of the prized crop began in the valley. Many historians believe that it was in this region that the cultivation of the purple Crocus Sativus saffron flower first began, although it is impossible to be sure where its origins lie.
